Summer snow sports
After the ski season has finished and people are looking to next years season for getting that one last trick down or perfecting their race carving technique don’t forget about the Dachstein Glacier in the Austrian Alps.
Our company is offering the chance for groups of skiers and snowboarders to come and spend time on the European Alps most easterly ski glacier. With the best value accommodation available by booking early you can have the best summer snow sport experience without breaking the budget.
Boasting one of the best freestyle snow parks in Europe from the end of May until August (weather dependant) and some of the best glacier training grounds for cross country skiing as well as for ski slalom training the Dachstein Glacier is the perfect setting for a summer holiday and skiing or snowboarding break coming together.
The glacier is in the upper Ennstal area in the region Steiermark and sits just below the peak of the Hoeher Dachstein at 3000m. At the foot of the mountain is a plateau where lies the village of Ramsau, a traditional Austrian escape surrounded by lush green fields and dramatic mountain Scenery.
The Dachstein ski area opens for summer business on the 22nd of May. We can organise accommodation, activities and transfers to, from and around the area for you taking the stress out of organising your holiday as well as providing a support service in the area which will let you have a stress free break. Rafting Season begins
As of the 1st of May the rivers will be ready to raft again in Steirermark and Salzburgerland, Austria. For beginners and families with small children the upper Enns running through Schladming is a relaxed easy going class 2-3 river.
This stretch of the Enns has approximately 6 rapid sections evenly spaced out down the river with easy going calm sections that are good for swimming or even just sitting back and enjoying the views over the local mountain ranges.
The Salzach is the next step up (class 3-4) which is a great start if you’re slightly more adventurous or already have a bit of experience. On this river there are a few more rapids than the upper Enns which are all at a higher difficulty level with wave trains and big standing waves to negotiate. The Salzach also has some nice deep calm sections great for diving in and swimming around on a typical warm Austrian summer day.

The final river on offer in the area is the Gesause Enns. Advisable for only fit people with previous experience this river has a few ‘heart in the mouth’ moments.
The Gesause national park is about 100km downstream from Schladming meaning it is a much higher volume river than the tame upper Enns at this point. The first half kilometre is where the fun begins with a wild class 4 section with huge wave trains and boat eating standing waves.
It then calms down for the next few kilometres allowing plenty of time to play around in the water before taking on the final class 3 section.
For the brave you can portage to a class 5 section to finish things off. Be sure to let us know in advance if you want to take on the class 5 section as some companies that we use do not run this section.
